Where Did September Go?

There is so much to write about.  First, I’m not sure where September went.  My starting work and transitioning into life with childcare happened overnight and suddenly that was our new life.  I guess that’s how we transitioned into life with Oliver as well.  One day there is the old life, the next day a new life.  The folks who make Franklin Planners (Franklin Covey – remember those? Made from this pulp from trees called… what was it again, paper?) capitalized on research that says it takes about a month for people to develop new habits, so they would try to get you to use a day planner for a month… at which point you’d be accustomed to the new lifestyle and (they hoped) a newly devoted plan book user.  I had 5 months with an amazing little boy (plus a whole lotta hormones, other biological bonding stuff, and brown eyes that penetrate your soul) to get me devoted to a new schedule and new lifestyle.  Yet the need for insurance and a paycheck is a powerful motivator, thus the need for this new stage of life.

For those of you who haven’t been following along, Calle helped the transition to leaving Oliver at home that first day by making me not want to be anywhere near our house due to extreme skunkiness.  Thank you Calle.  Your thoughts for helping were appreciated, if not the actual method.

Work has been crazy.  Horace Mann has gone through a lot of staffing changes and BPS is going through a lot of changes in terms of staff evaluations and information management.  Perhaps I’ll expound on that later, but let’s just say it would have been a really tough start of year whether or not Oliver had come into our lives.

There have been a whole bunch of firsts which I will try to post about individually.  Also Jeremy and I have been made aware of the importance of lasts.  Check out a Huff Post article written last month, The Last Time to see what I mean.  Already I had been thinking about lasts as I pack away clothes that now seem impossibly small for our tall, skinny dude.  This puts lasts in a new perspective, though.

This post will end early so I can go be with the aforementioned tall, skinny dude.  Hopefully there will be a bit more time soon to chronicle the events that have happened since I last had time to blog.
