About Bump

Thus far the posts here have focused on preparations for Bump’s arrival.  Today, as time  allows, I’ll add a few things we know about Bump himself.

Bump is a boy.  We can’t confirm this yet, but if we are willing to trust the ultrasound tech, the doctor who formally read the ultrasound, and the popular vote at HMS back in the fall (because gender is an elected trait?!) we have a baby boy on the way.  In the  5 months since we were last able to see him on the ultrasound I have heard a lot of theories on how women “carry” their babies during pregnancy. Apparently “ball shaped” bellies = boys.  Most people up until now who have told me this already knew the  gender, so I didn’t necessarily put much stock in it. This past weekend I was at an academic conference, EduCon 2.4, and met tons of new people.  I am surprised at the number who asked if I was having a boy. I fact, anyone who hazarded a guess chose boy. Perhaps there is more to the shape theory than I initially thought.

¡Sopresa Proyecto!

¡Sopresa Proyecto! is what Liz called the amazing blanket she made for us when she posted about it on Ravelry. Check out her handiwork in the pictures here.  This is her first crochet project. In her words she “…may be a crochet savant.”  Who am I to argue?

We have many crafty friends.  If you have already gifted us with crafty wonderfulness do not worry – your efforts will be shown!  It’s just that Liz put her pictures online in a place where I could easily steal them, thus making the blanket easy to blog about.  Once I get a few moments to take some pictures of our other items, they will get airtime (or bandwidth…).  Check out the “handmade” tag to the right to see more pics… when I get around to uploading them.

More hexagons... and circles

There’s a…

… car seat in our living room.  And it belongs to us.

That’s all.

A gift for Bump and me

Look what Kate got Bump and me for a gift today! How cool?

The room… Phase two

The walls are now mostly painted – more on the “mostly” at another time. We used Seattle Grey, by Benjamin Moore (or Bennie Moore, as Perrin would say).
This afternoon I put coat one of the chalkboard paint on the closet door. The roller did just an ok job, despite going with the nap height recommended on the can. I may brush on the second coat instead, as I plan to sand before the final coat.

FYI: Chalkboard paint is not an instant gratification project as it takes 4 hours between coats and 3 days to cure before you can write on it. At week 32 of pregnancy I’m starting to get used to mandated waiting… Sort of.

The room… Phase one

Thanks Jon & Courtney!

As you can see, the room required lots of patching and plaster before the paint could happen. It wouldn’t have happened without Jon & Courtney, who did a fabulous job!
